More modifications

More changes to the site’s design. Internet Explorer is crap. Opera 7.5 is out.

As you can see, there’ve been some more changes to the site’s design. I think the new colours are less bold, but more harmonious, and better reflect the themes of the site. I intend to change the gradient bits that show up in the content area, because they just look ugly. I’m trialling the new header typeface, but I think I’ll probably redraw the old one in another hand-made face. I’ve finally got around to adding a few nice little cosmetic features such as the little icons for the comments and permalink links.

The next task is to rewrite the Journal archive navigator to remove the frames.

If you’re viewing this site in IE–shame on you–you’ll notice numerous problems that are not my fault but rather due to the stupidity of that particular browser’s CSS implementation. Take a look in Mozilla for the best rendering.

Opera 7.50 has come out of beta and thus has become my new primary browser. The upgrade was mostly easy; my stored emails all lost their associations with filters, so I had to reassign them one by one. Luckily I don’t communicate much so there weren’t all that many :). One feature that I think I will use a lot is the inbuilt feed reader. Finally there is one that doesn’t have IE embedded. The new version has a lot of other UI changes, most for the better, but doesn’t seem to have changed much in terms of page rendering. I guess that’s what one should expect from a minor version change, but I can’t wait until Opera fully supports all the new CSS3 stuff.
