Changes and revelations
New design for the website in the works, but long before its time. Historical revelations brought on by train rides.
Heh… I’ve started working on a new design for this site. This is a stupid thing to do, but I hate the boxyness of this version. Unfortunately the only ways to fix that involve serious hacks that go beyond my threshold of hackiness. I want to clean up the HTML as well, and I will probably avoid the semi-liquid design because that causes headaches at the moment. Ach. I should finish the new admin system first.
I had a revelation on the train the other day. All the civilisations in Carthas come from the same place. A semi-mythological island on which four “tribes” lived… one was annihilated in war, another left to found Acritas, another founded the Archipelago and Herteis, and the last (the Eritani), after the island sinks in major geological activity, founds Handar and Crushe, joining the already departed in Methri. This creates the connection between Handar and Methri whilst still keeping them seperate. Why didn’t I see this before?

I presume this will then leave remnants of the eliminated tribe dotted around everywhere?
I feel this design is rather groovy, so make it work before discarding it. Then you can take your time to build a new model whilst simultaneously updating this one with new news and the like. This way you’ll be able to carefully plan out what is needed and what isn’t.
Just a thought.

Yes, indeed. Some of their languages are related (externally by virtue of my having created them thusly) without me knowing exactly how they came to be that way. This is a simple story that explains how these people are related, but since it is set significantly in the past, still allows for much difference between the civilisations, physical and intellectual.
As for the design, well, good as it may be, I get sick of things very quickly. Still, I’ve got two prototypes in development, one of which is significantly different, and the other is a modification of this design. Luckily, thanks to standards based web design, all I need generally do to modify the design is change the CSS.
In fact, by the time you read this, I may already have copied the new version across to this machine (it currently resides on aelfsciene (which is my new machine)).

I think we may be talking cross–purposes here: when I say design, I mean the visual design. I have no intention of changing the backend design, since I’m quite fond of that as it is.
