More random stuff

A new journal archive navigation system. Uni starting on Monday; lots of work to do that hasn’t been done yet but should have been. New computer case has arrived: causing physical pain to its owner by not yet having any innards.

I’ve redesigned the Journal Archive navigation system. It is now much cleaner internally, as well as simpler externally. It is based on the design of Spinn’s Brainshots. It just needs some visual tweaking (which takes place solely in the CSS file), and it will be done. Next task: move the comments into the archive. There are some nasty hacks in the comment system, so I’m not looking forward to redesigning it.

Uni starts back on Monday, and my first teaching is on Tuesday. I’m not really nervous about it now, but no doubt I will be when it comes time. I’m confident that I know the material, so I don’t expect it will be too difficult. Other than that, I’ve got a lot of work to do, and I really have to get started about three months ago :). Will I make it through this semester successfully? I’ll have to wait and see.

I got the case and power supply for my new computer this week. It is a damned nice case (Thermaltake Damier V6000A), but it doesn’t really do anything until there is some hardware inside it. And I have yet to get that hardware. So I’m in great pain staring at the empty case, forced to wait until I have enough cash to purchase the other components. Argh. Ugh. (Insert other such cries of pain.) The current system plan:

  • Intel Pentium 4 3.20G-C 800Mhz FSB, Hyperthreading
  • ASUS P4C800-E-DLX Mobo
  • Corsair 1GB TWINX PC3200 PRO Kit RAM
  • Western Digital 160GB SATA-150 HDD (or maybe 200GB)
  • ASUS V9980-Ultra-TVD-P 256 VGA card (or more likely the V9950)
  • ASUS 16X DVD-ROM
  • ASUS 52×32x52 CRW-5232SA CD-RW
  • 17″ Samsung 172-X DVI LCD monitor (or maybe 19″)
  • Altec Lansing 5.1 45W RMS 6-pc Speakers (perhaps, more research needed)

Hrm, a computer without components eh… Well, you could always plug in a keyboard and make crashing sounds and pretend you are playing something on it I guess.

If you wanted to pretend you are progamming, you could randomly type away and then hurl the keyboard across the room, because the stupid compiler gives an error message that is indecipherable (admittedly visual doesn’t seem to do this).

Well, I can’t really plug in a keyboard since there is no motherboard. The end of the cord would have to just sit in the open space that awaits the piece of metal that houses the motherboard ports. And that would be doubly silly.
